Environmental monitoring in the case of a radiological event
Monitoring radioactivity in the environment is carried out to ensure the protection of the population. Data collected should be used to determine to what extent people and the environment might or have been exposed to a possible contamination by ionizing radiation. During the normal operation of installations, monitoring takes place as a matter of routine in order to determine whether or not legal limit values have been exceeded and to register long-term trends.
